In this day and age, where we are constantly looking for new ways to get inspired, Jayavel's story will help you get a new perspective towards life in general.
In fact, his personal struggle against all odds possible will help you realize that people out there are living way tougher lives than you can ever imagine.
In 1980s, Jayavel’s family migrated to Chennai from Nellore after a failed crop season. Forced to fend for themselves, the family started begging to make ends meet. The condition worsens after Jayavel’s dad passed away and his mother became an alcohol addict. With no roof on his head and no clothes to wear, Jayavel was forced to get into begging since that was the only way in which he could help.
Recalling an incident from his past Jayavel said in an interview to India Today, "We used to sleep on one such pavement. If it would rain, we would try to find other shelter in any nearby shop until the cops came and chased us out of there."
However, life took a whole new turn when met Uma Muthuraman. Muthumaran and her husband during that time working on documenting the scenario of street kids in Chennai. This is where they met Jayavel and they extend their help to him.
In 1999, Uma Muthuraman took Jayavel under their own guidance. And their NGO, Suyam Charitable Trust, went on to help Jayavel to get a proper education that he deserved.
And as luck would have it, Jayavel scored really well in his 12th standard. Post which few donors were interested in giving him a loan for his higher education. Post that, Jayavel cleared Cambridge University’s entrance examination and got a seat in Glyndwr University, Wales.
