Ending love marriage online: Maharashtra couple divorced on Skype

Pune Couple Divorced On Skype
In a (probable) first in the state of Maharashtra, a couple in Pune was granted divorce by mutual consent after appearing online on video-conferencing application Skype.
The husband and wife who got divorced on Skype are both software engineers. The 28-year-old husband works in Singapore while the 26-year-old wife works in London.
Last year on August, the Pune couple filed a divorce petition under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, before the Pune Civil Judge.
LOVE MARRIAGE ENDS ON SKYPE
The woman hails from Amravati and the man is form Nagpur. They both are software engineers and after their love marriage, they settled in Pune on May 9, 2015.
Just after a month of their marriage, both received an opportunity to work abroad, but in two different locations.
The husband took the job in Singapore while the wife stayed back. Soon she realise that her marriage is hindering her career.
When a conversation was struck, it resulted in huge difference of opinion. Within two months of their marriage, from June 30, 2015, the couple started living separately.
It was then that they filed a divorce petition in August 2015.
WHY DIVORCE ON SKYPE?
When it was time to get separated, the husband and wife were required to be at the court. The husband came down from Singapore for the court hearing that was on Saturday, but the wife could not make it owing to her work commitments. Not just that, terms of her employment did not permit her to appear before the court in person for the hearing.
Advocate Suchit Mundada requested the court to permit video-conferencing, as allowed by the Bombay High Court last year.
"The court accepted and allowed the wife to present her evidence on Skype," Mundada told IANS.
Advocate said that after hearing both the sides, the court granted the divorce, observing they were not able to live together compassionately.
