London: British entrepreneur and recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) Poonam Gupta is a well known cricket enthusiast and a connoisseur of cricket memorabilia.

The businesswoman on Tuesday added another special piece to her collection as she paid a whopping 290 Thousand GBP to win a rare painting that covers ten years of Virat Kohli's journey in the Indian Premier League.

The painting, which is a creation of celebrity painter Sasha Jeffery, is said to an oil on canvas piece.

The bid for the painting was held during the recently organised charity dinner by the Virat Kohli foundation in London.

"What I like about this young generation of Indian cricketers is that they are responsible and want to make difference on and off the field. I am very connected to the cause taken up by Virat. Slavery has no place in this world and we need to stand up and do our bit with however we can. I am glad Virat has come forward against this evil and by buying this magnificent piece of art created by my favourite artist Sasha Jaffrey, I tick two boxes. I take a rare master piece to my home and also help this noble cause in my own way," Poonam Gupta said after winning the prized collection.

The charity dinner was also in the news for wrong reasons as fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya was in attendance. Mallya's presence ensured that the team moved out of the event very quickly.

Virat Kohli and Team India take on Bangladesh in the second semi final of the ICC Champions Trophy on Thursday at Edgbaston.
