There is no denying the fact that technology has become an integral part of our lives and has made many things easier for us. But can we trust technology with closed eyes?
We don’t think so and you also shouldn’t!
On January 12, an SUV driver was following GPS while driving and he fell into a frozen lake. The incident happened in the northeastern state of Vermont on the surface of a lake which is known as Lake Champlain. As per the reports, there were two passengers also in the SUV at the time of the incident.
As per the report of police and media, the three managed to escape without any injury and the Jeep Compass was borrowed by them from the owner Tara Guertin.
The report said that the drive “followed the GPS directions, which advised to go straight, and upon following this he went down the boat ramp onto the ice.”
The report also said that ice was frozen in the beginning and the vehicle slid on the ice. But later, ice cracked after which SUV drowned in the lake and only bumper was visible.
The vehicle was recovered on January 22. Tara told WCAX-3 local CBS affiliate television,
“I was speechless. My first thing was, ‘Is everybody OK?’ Because this could have had a very bad ending, and luckily everybody was alright.”
Tara’s friend Mike Czarny uploaded a photo on Facebook and wrote, “My friend Tara Guertin’s Jeep being pulled out of Lake Champlain today. Damn GPS!!!”
Here’s the Facebook post:
According to reports, the driver was taking directions from Waze app which is owned by the search giant Google but they can’t give a convincing explanation as Julie Mossler, the Google spokesperson, told USA Today,
“Waze maps are updated with millions of edits to adapt to real time road conditions daily, often making them the most accurate available.”
Be careful while using apps from the next time. Technology is of a great help but we should not rely on it completely.
