Swara Bhaskar’s open letter to Padmaavat created quite a stir and invited several controversies. While there were many who stood by Swara’s side and supported her opinion, there were many who bashed her for her remarks. Even the Twitter slammed her for her meanest comments.
Even the film’s star cast had a different opinion on Swara’s remarks. Shahid Kapoor found her comment odd, Ranveer Singh said that he received a congratulatory message from Swara for his performance.
And now, Deepika Padukone has finally opened about it and given a befitting reply to Swara’s comments.
In a media interview last night, Deepika was asked to give her opinion on the discussion around the Jauhar scene, she said, “I think people miss the fact that this film was set in an era- in the 12th and 13th century when rituals like this were practiced.”
Further, when she was asked to comment on Swara’s remarks, taking a dig at Swara’s comments, Deepika gave her a befitting reply and said, “She probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.”
What do you think of Deepika’s opinion on Swara’s remarks? Tell us in comments.
