Indrani Rahman, at the age of 22 was the first Indian woman to participate in the international beauty contest in the year 1952. Indrani also wore a sexy swimsuit but with a twist.
The beautiful diva could not escape from the round where she had to present herself in a swimsuit and she managed to impress everyone. But what caught everyone’s attention was Indrani’s desi twist to this modern outfit.
Indrani paired her sexy swimsuit with a bindi and a gajra and completely rocked it.

It would be quite surprising to know that Indrani was already married and had a kid when she represented India for this contest.
She got hitched at an early age of 15 to a well-known architect Habib Rahman. They couple had a son and a daughter. Take a look at these bold and beautiful pics which prove that they were a power couple back then.
Indrani was also a trained classical dancer in Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Odissi. She had begun her training at just the age of 9.
The beautiful diva was honoured the Padma Shri in 1969 and was also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Taraknath Das Award.
Rahman later settled in New York in the year 1976 and along with her mother continued to popularize the Indian classical dances performing across the globe.
In 1961, Indrani was first dancer present on a national tour by the Asia Society. The beauty also performed for US President John F. Kennedy and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The talented diva has also performed for Emperor Haile Selassie, Queen Elizabeth II, Mao Zedong, Nikita Khrushchev, and Fidel Castro.
Until her death in Manhattan in 1999, Indrani also taught in various American universities, including Harvard, and spent her later life in the United States.
Indrani’s life has been an inspirational one and a film on such a terrific life can do wonders at the box-office.
