We all say India has come a long way. But, amidst all the glittery shades, lies certain dark secrets, superstitions in which our countrymen believe. With monsoon stopping tracks in mid-way, various people have started resorting to superstitious practices to please Indra, the rain God.
Undoubtedly, India is a land of many beliefs and superstitions. Recently, A minister in Madhya Pradesh attended a wedding and primarily has got a lot of attention from social media for his involvement in superstitious practices. Don’t get confused. The marriage itself has something unusual and quirky. Mainly, because the bride and groom were two frogs. According to ANI reports, two frogs were married off in order to please the rain God. What came out to be more surprising is MP Minister Lalita Yadav attended the wedding.

Not only one minister, but even the leaders of the leading government BJP organized a grand fest.
Priest of the temple had quoted this as an old tradition meant to please the god. This is not the only ceremony happening in the country. Another similar ceremony took place in Varanasi. The organizers cite it as ceremony organized to please Indra. In the year 2016 too, a video was released in which two frogs were married off for the same reasons.

We all are aware of the fact that timely arrival of monsoon is important. The delay in rainfall directly affects the sowing patterns. But, how can rain be related to the marriage of the two frogs? Getting two frogs married simply defies all the logics. How can the marriage of two frogs or havan or any other unrealistic practice be the cause of rain? These prejudices have been stuck in Indian mentality for thousands of years. Why don’t people in our country talk about the process of rainmaking? A number of countries are using this phenomenon of artificial raining.
Instead of wasting tons of money on organizing these havans and marriages, why not invest the same amount of money in the artificial rain process? These marriages may not yield the desired results. But, the artificial process or cloud seeding may definitely give you better and desired results.
This is really surprising that India is still practicing these irrelevant superstitions. Even in this age of innovation and advancements, instead of questioning, people are believing. Politicians supporting these sort of ceremonies are actually further contributing to the exploitation of the culture.
The leaders of opposing party also commented on this unrealistic practice. Commenting about Yadav, Senior Congress leader from Chhattarpur Alok Chaturvedi said that instead of providing drinking water in the area Yadav was busy in organizing such rituals.
Chaturvedi said, “It’s an attempt to divert people’s attention in the name of religion and old tradition. It would have been better if she had used this time and energy to solve people’s problems. I, through my own means, supply around 50-100 water tankers in various parts of Chhattarpur city every day.”
On Twitter, Netizens completely slammed MP Minister for attending the marriage. Here are a few reactions.
