Just days ago, a Polish retail listing revealed the final design and specs of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, while also providing an alleged price for both devices. Today, though, a new listing on the website of online retailer AliExpress, which has a pretty strong presence in Spain, reveals at least one of the two smartphones may actually be a lot cheaper than initially expected.
In the previous listing, it was suggested that the Mi A2 Lite would be offered in Europe for roughly €240, which equates to $285. If the AliExpress listing is accurate, however, it appears the official price may be closer to €165. Now, before getting too excited, it’s worth noting that products purchased via AliExpress tend to come directly from China, which suggests the official pricing in Europe may be slightly higher. But, even when the 20% VAT which is part of EU prices is factored in, the smartphone still looks set to cost just under €200, significantly cheaper than the previous listing and a price point that seems much more respectable. After all, aside from the bigger battery and the notched display, the Mi A2 Lite differs very little from last year’s Xiaomi Mi A1.
Internally, this means users can expect the octa-core Snapdragon 625 to feature alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. However, a slightly more expensive version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage will also be available to purchase and, in both cases, microSD cards will be supported. Also, as is typical with Android One smartphones, the Mi A2 Lite will ship with stock Android 8.1 Oreo straight out of the box.
Presently, the Mi A2 Lite is set to become official on July 24 alongside the regular Mi A2 at an event in Madrid, Spain. It’s unclear if Xiaomi will hold a pre-order period but shipments are expected to commence August 8 and both offerings will be available in black, blue, and gold.
