Huawei will unveil Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 at IFA, updates begin next month

Huawei will unveil Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 at IFA, updates begin next month
Following the release of Android 9 Pie earlier this month, the benefits of implementing Project Treble into last year’s Android 8.0 Oreo became much clearer. So far, alongside Google, Essential has also managed to roll out the update. Additionally, Sony has confirmed that six of its smartphones will begin receiving the software starting in September. And now it appears Huawei may also be updating its devices soon.

According to a spokesperson for the company, the popular brand will unveil its new EMUI 9.0 interface based on Android 9 Pie at this year’s IFA event, presumably alongside the new Kirin 980 processor. Following this, it’s been confirmed that the Huawei P20 series, which consists of the P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite, will all receive the update later on in September. Additionally, once this series has been updated, the company’s Mate line will also begin receiving the new software, with the Mate 10Mate 10 Pro, and Mate 10 Litepresumably being first in line for the update.

In regards to the company’s other smartphone offerings, Huawei is yet to reveal what kind of schedule is to be expected. Nevertheless, considering the company has historically been one of the slowest when it comes to updating its smartphones – the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus didn’t begin receiving Android 8.0 Oreo until seven months after its release – the implementation of Project Treble is seemingly paving the way for significantly quicker updates, something that will benefit consumers in the long run and suggests owners of mid-range smartphones will no longer have to wait as much.
