PMO Narendra Modi is all set to launch this new scheme called ‘UDAN’ which will be aiming at strengthening the regional connectivity through low-cost flights.
The first flag off flight will have in attendance the Prime Minister himself. The flag off flight will be from Shimla to Delhi, Kadapa-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderabad regions.
The scheme will be launched from Shimla. UDAN stands for Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik and it is a first-time such scheme will be launched globally in order to boost regional connectivity. The schemed is based on market-based mechanism.
PMO tweeted,”To make air travel accessible to citizens in regionally important areas, the ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik’ RCS (regional connectivity scheme) was launched in October 2016.”
The UDAN Scheme is one of the most important aspects of the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP) that was introduced on June 15, 2016.
PMO tweets also mentioned, “Airfare for a 1-hour journey of approximately 500 kilometers on a fixed wing aircraft or for a 30-minute journey on a helicopter would be capped at Rs 2,500. This with proportionate pricing for routes of different stage lengths and flight duration.”
The PM Narendra Modi is also supposed to attend a rally when he will be in Shimla to flag off the first flight. The rally is at the historic place – Ridge Maidan. This will be the first time Modi will be visiting Shimla after he became a Prime Minister. He had last visited the place when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in the year 2003.
Here’s what he tweeted about the UDAN scheme:
We feel this new scheme is a thoughtful and effective scheme to further enhance regional connectivity and also the affordability factor is taken into consideration. A part of the #AccheDin, we can feel it.
