Unknown Facts About Blockbuster Film Ek Duuje Ke Liye Which Will Take You By Surprise

Unknown Facts About Blockbuster Film Ek Duuje Ke Liye Which Will Take You By Surprise
In the year 1981, the movie Ek Duuje Ke Liya was released. This marked South star Kamal Haasan’s Bollywood debut. Kamal entered the mainstream cinema after doing several films in the South film industry. Apart from Kamal, there were many actors who were going to be part of Hindi films for the first time after working in South films. Ek Duuje Ke Liye was directed by K Balachander. However, after the film’s completion, it faced a huge obstacle as no distributor was readily fearing a major loss.
This created a huge tension for Laxman Prasad and later he had to distribute his own film. There was not much hope from the movie, so some of its prints were released earlier. The demand for the movie increased so much that within a week, there was a need to provide a large number of new prints immediately.
The film was made on a budget of Rs 10 lakhs and earned more than Rs. 10 crores which were a huge amount back in those times. Here are of some interesting stories related to this movie which will surprise you:
This film was first produced by K. Balachander by the name Maro Charitra (1978) in Telugu starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The film received a terrific response and hence makers decided to make a film in Hindi. But the makers retained the original star cast for the Hindi remake except for the lead actress Sarita. Rati Agnihotri was cast for the female lead.
This was Kamal Haasan, Rati, Madhavi and Singer SPS Subramaniam’s first Hindi movie together. The film, along with these four artists, got Filmfare Award nominations in a total of 13 categories. Out of which, it won three awards (Best Editing, Best Lyricist and Best Screenplay).

The makers tried to concentrate more on giving some best songs, considering the craze of songs in the Hindi audience. The famous composer Jodi Laxmikant-Pyarelal was entrusted with this responsibility. Balachander wanted SP Balasubramanian to playback for Kamal. However, Laxmikant-Pyarelal ji was not in favour of this as they thought Balasubramanian won’t be able to do justice to it.
This movie became a huge rage among the buffs. A few days after the release, it was declared a blockbuster but a major problem arose among all this. In the climax of the film, both Rati and Kamal’s characters commit suicide. Taking an inspiration from them, many couples in the country started committing suicides. To prevent this, many government organizations spoke to the makers of the film. Several meetings were held where all the people who were a part of this film attended the meeting.

But the actors were asked to stop people from doing this. Rati was not allowed to go to these meetings, and her father used to take care of these issues. The reason for this was that when the film was released, Rati was only 16 years old. The makers and the family did not want such negativity around Rati.
Director of the film Balachander first showed the film to Raj Kapoor who was a big name back then. He liked the whole film but he wanted the movie to have a happy ending. He asked Balachander to change the ending but he refused to do so. Amidst, the reports of suicide, Balachander changed the film end once but he had to run the original end on the public demand.
Ek Duuje Ke Liye is considered one of the finest romantic films of all the times till date.
