It’s true that “You are never too late” and this 89 years old lady proves the saying.
A lady named Latika Chakravorty is sewing beautiful things from a very long time and now she has started a website of her own to sell those handmade things.
Latika was born in Dhubri, Assam and she got married to Krishna Lal Chakrabarty, an Officer-Surveyor from Survey Of India. The two have a son together and when her husband passed away, she moved in with her son, Captain Raj Chakravorty who serves the nation with the Indian Navy.
Latika’s son has a job where he has to travel a lot and therefore, her mother also traveled with him. They both traveled to several places in India till now. As Latika traveled, she collected fabrics (saris, kurta or any cloth, she loves collecting them) of all shapes and sizes and behind every piece of cloth in her collection, there was a special story attached. It has its own culture, style, and beauty which took with herself whenever she left the place.
Latika make the new things out of all the old fabrics from different places and she has started making Potli Bags for last four years and her daughter-in-law, Sumita helped her in this.
You can find Potli Bags in each and every style which tells a story of where it has been brought and its history. Mirror work, silk Potlis, which you can take at any marriage also-Latika sews it all. She is very talented at her work.
The price of the Potli Bags starts from Rs. 500 and seriously it is worth the money as the lady herself sews them with her creativity and craft. She already has got many orders for her bags from all over the world as the bags are really eye-catching and cute too that you can buy instantly.
She has been armed with her fellow which is almost 64 years old- a sewing machine. Talking to Indiatimes about starting Latika’s own website, her son said that Latika’s grandson Joy, who puts up in Germany, was visiting them and was so impressed by his grandma’s work that he decided to set up a site for her by the name of Latika’s Bags. The site is named as LATIKA’S
