Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have lately been the hottest topic internationally. After dating for few months, the couple decided to be partners for life. The duo is currently engaged and would get married soon. While people are loving this celebrity couple, there are few who criticized Priyanka for dating a man who is 10 years younger to her. For those who don’t know, Priyanka recently celebrated her 36th birthday, while Nick is a 25-year-old American singer.
A large bunch of people criticized PeeCee for this, however, there were also people who appreciated her for her choice and said that being an independent woman she has the right to choose her life partner. We live in a patriarchal society where older men marrying younger women is fine but the vice versa is a taboo.
On this, filmmaker Karan Johar said in an interview, “Relationship should not be about it. I am very liberal and progressive among these things. I have never thought, ‘Oh, your man should be older than you.’ Why? Why should we say these things? If you find compatibility and you find a relationship of comfort, who cares who’s older than who.”
He further added, “Who made these rules that the man should be older? Like sometimes I have heard members of my family say things like this. Sometimes, I feel that’s the saving grace of the relationship. Sometimes the maturity that a woman brings to the table, I think it can actually make sure that the relationship has a strong binding. So, I really don’t buy all these things, it doesn’t make sense to me.”
25-year-old American Singer Nick Jonas recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show ‘The Tonight Show’. Talking about how he first met Priyanka, he said, “We met through a friend. So, we got connected first through a text and we started talking for a while and it was six months before we met up in person. And we attended the Met Gala actually together a few years ago. We had a great time but as friends, you know… but you know it’s funny that people would ask us in an interview setting or private: ‘Are you guys seeing each other?’ And the answer was no!”
